Pellet Envy crowned Grand Champion of Smokin' In The Creek!

In a field of 52 teams, with a second place call in the Pork category and wins in the Pork Ribs and Brisket categories, Pellet Envy wins Grand Champion this past weekend in Sugar Creek, Missouri. The cold, windy Friday weather gave way to a calm, partly sunny, mild Saturday that was perfect for a barbeque contest. This was our first year at this five year old event and I want to say the organization of the event and hospitality of the volunteers was second to none. Our hats are off to Sue and her staff, especially Doug, on what we have to consider a top notch event.

Special thanks to Jennifer of Fat Bastard and Lippy B for calming me down after a very late arrival and helping prepare for the Sugar Creek dignitaries. We served appetizers as the first stop on their multi-course, multi-team dining experience that culminated with after dinner drinks at the Jeanie's Got Wood camp. Also a big thanks to Chris and Jana and Jim and JoAnn of Early Bird BBQ for hosting the Friday evening potluck dinner and to Stephanie and Val of The Slabs.com for hosting the Saturday morning breakfast potluck. By the way, The Slabs have an awesome new rub out, Birds and Bones. Rumor has it that Birds and Bones was the secret weapon of at least two of the top ten teams in chicken in Sugar Creek PLUS won the chicken category elsewhere that same day.

Congrats to Todd and Andy of Pork Pullin' Plowboys on their RGC this weekend as well. Andy is actually a ringer that cooks on two or three different teams - it's hard to keep up. Way to go guys! Also, congrats to my friends Extreme Pork, the 3rd Annual Barry Road Hy-Vee BBQ contest Grand Champions and to The Slabs, featuring Kyle Laval cooking solo on being the Reserve Grand Champion. Jobs well done Mark, Dale and Kyle.

Did I mention that of the only three contests in the country this past weekend, pellet heads were the Grand Champions or Reserve Grand Champions in four of the six possible spots? Oh, and did I mention that I'm an authorized Cookshack dealer and specialize in placing new FEC pits in good homes? If you're considering a new pit and want to get some rest at a contest or otherwise, let's talk. You won't find a dealer with more knowledge about these cookers.

Next up, the Apple Blossom BBQ event in St. Joseph, Missouri. This is a second year event but our first year to attend. I've heard really great things about it and we're excited to be part of it this year. See you all on the bbq trail!

Congrats Rod. Two first and one second, not too bad.
