Back to back wins qualify Pellet Envy for 2008 Jack Daniel's World Invitational

Back to back contest wins in Iowa this past weekend propelled Pellet Envy over the seven win hump this past weekend, qualifying us to compete in the 2008 Jack Daniel's World Invitational. There are only a few ways to get invited to cook in this storied event. Winning a state draw, requiring a team to win an event in a state, winning an event that is an automatic into the event, including the previous year's Jack Daniel's World Invitational, the American Royal Open, Memphis In May, and the Houston Livestock Rodeo or a contest in a state that only has one qualifier. Only a handful of teams have qualified under the seven win rule since it's inception. We feel very fortunate to have achieved his goal for the second time in three years.

The Jack Daniel's event is very special to competitive barbecue teams. I believe this is so because of the difficulty to get invited. Any given year, some of the circuit's best teams will be left on the outside looking in. When it happens, it's not a good feeling.

This will be our fifth year to participate in the event in our short cooking career. We're very excited to get to go back. There are several teams chasing one or two more wins with six weekends left to go in the qualifying season. Good luck to them and to everyone in the draw. We look forward to seeing everyone in the hollow in late October!

We will be there as spectators. I am really looking forward to it this year. We were there in '05 and as a result began competing in '06.
